An hour outside Liberia, up the rocky mountain pass, a remote lodge awaits weary travelers looking for summer in January and time spent with Nature.
In Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park, a 10 km hike accidentally turns into 24. While it’s a reminder not to trust local Central American evaluation of time or distance, misdirection is quickly forgiven. Waterfalls, volcanic hot springs and stunning views make the trek especially worthwhile. And the rewarding piña colada never tasted so good!
A sweet black cat seems content to share her home, and the back porch hammock is set under a thousand twinkling stars. Occasional shooting stars fall as I appreciate how nice it is to be completely disconnected from technology. I will rest easily here, I think, as crickets serenade me to sleep. Costa Rica is a place to revisit.
